Her People • Compiled and Edited by Rev. Daniel Scott (Author)

Daniel L. Scott, Sr., was born in Chesapeake, West Virginia on July 31, 1932 as a third generation Oneness Pentecostal. He experienced his second birth in the shadow of the merge that created the United Pentecostal Church in 1945; he was called into ministry at the age of 13, and married his childhood sweetheart, Joretta Jordan, in 1950. They evangelized until 1958, when he was elected the pastor of the Open Door Apostolic Church in Charleston, West Virginia. He was elected the secretary of the Youth Department in 1961, and the president in 1963. Many pastors in West Virginia and surrounding states were deeply influenced by his leadership at the West Virginia’s youth camp, the construction of which began during his tenure as president.

In 1968, he was God-called into Foreign Missions service by a spectacular vision and experienced tremendous surges of revival in Ecuador, South America, and served as the president of the United Pentecostal Church International of Ecuador.

In 1977, as a result of a near fatal illness, he returned to the United States to establish the United Pentecostal Church of Cross Lanes, West Virginia. General Home Missions Director Jack Yonts approached him and requested that he pioneer Spanish language evangelism for North America. With miraculous growth in the Spanish Evangelism Ministry, he became an official full-time with the General Home Missions Division in 1986. In 1991, he assumed the responsibility for all ethnic groups and expanded the United Pentecostal Church’s evangelism endeavor into 21 language groups of North America.

Brother Scott worked faithfully to establish written policy for each district for this ministry until 1996, when he was requested to serve as the Regional Director for South America, a position he filled with a deep sense of purpose. In 2002, General Director of Foreign Missions Bruce Howell requested that he serve as his Executive Administrational Assistant. Brother Scott retired in 2008, having authored eight books, one a chronicle of his life in ministry, ‘My Fantastic Journey.’

After 65 years behind the pulpit, he strongly believes the church to be a universal body, and that the privileges enjoyed by its members throughout the world are linked with a common heart to responsibility; a concept Brother Scott consistently espouses in his writings.

He continues to be a guest teacher at the Urshan Graduate School of Theology, and when speaking for the graduation of the class of 2008, he was presented a ‘Lifetime Ministry Award’ by the staff and students. He is listed in Who’s Who of North America (2010 edition) in the category of ‘Religious Leaders that Make a Difference.’

5 out of 5 stars I Was Moved To Tears

By Robin-Kelli Kirchner (Cumberland, MD)

I purchased a copy of this book last night. I must say I was moved to tears. It was compiled with excellence. I extend a very heartfelt thank-you to Bro. Garlitz for his desire for such a record and to Bro. Scott for his efforts to see that desire become a completed task. It is simply wonderful. Again, thank you so very much.

5 out of 5 stars Do it again, Lord!

By Neva Limones (Amarillo, TX)

I am still reading my copy, and I am so moved to tears to see how God has worked miracles and wonders in our most beautiful state! We can take to heart and follow for ourselves the example of the great pioneers -- we need to see it in our own lives.... "Do it again, Lord, do it again!" Why not? If those pioneers were with us now, they would want us to experience that!

5 out of 5 stars Thank You

By Pastor Edwin Harper (Huntington, WV)

After receiving our copies, my wife and I sat for hours and remembered and enjoyed the stories and scenes from the past. As was well said, there is so much more to be said because each story / church has more to share. Thank you for the effort and the fine presentation. Everyone should be proud to display the book and use it for enjoyment as well as a tool to plot our future course with a fixed landmark to measure our progress.
